16 Days of Activism, 16 Day of Stories

Facebook asked me to share a story for their online event promoting the UN’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Campaign. It was an honor to be asked, and a pleasure to deliver.

Unfortunately, my work means that I frequently see that the world is failing on making Internet access a reality for all. And further still, when they are online, it is more often women and girls who do not get access to spaces that are safe and free from gender-based violence.

The Covid-19 pandemic has shown not only in less developed countries but in our own backyards just how large the digital divide is. The assumption that access to connectivity is a problem only of Global Majority countries is a myth we all must challenge.

How can we increase awareness of this digital divide and in particular its effect on Black and Brown girls? Watch the video on Facebook to hear my suggestions! I welcome your comments on the post as well.
